Otatara House

Otatara House is nested within a semi-rural setting on the outskirts of Invercarcgill. The architecture responds to the opportunities of a rural lifestyle and reflects the need to maximise natural light and rural views.
The house is orientated around a central spline with a series of pavilions branching off that creates separation from private and public spaces. The projection of the main spline that sits forward of the other pavilions and with a fully glazed gable end, brings in the rural outlook and sense of serenity.
Primarily clad in cedar weatherboards enables the form to work with its surroundings but through its gable form creates a presence within this private setting.
